Arts in the Park in Blue Ridge GA

For 41 years the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association has hosted Arts in the Park Memorial Day weekend and the second weekend in October. Listed in 2015 as one of the top five Art Towns in Georgia by the Georgia Council of the Arts and recognized in 2016 as #6 of the top ten fine craft towns in America by American Craft Week, Blue Ridge is a top art destination. With over 170 artists and vendors nearly 20,000 attendees visit Blue Ridge each year to soak in this coveted event. For me, I enjoy all the excitement. Thousands of people […]

Visit Mercier Orchard in Blue Ridge GA

I was looking through my previous blog posts and came to find something alarming. I have not yet posted about one of my all time favorite places in Blue Ridge, Mercier Orchards. How in the world could I have overlooked it? Set in our beautiful mountains, this orchard has given me my first true taste of what fresh really is. I promise you, the regular apples you love from your local grocery store do not hold a candle to a fresh, ripe, crisp, sweet, right off the vine, still warm from the sun apple. My first trip to Mercier Orchards […]

Friday Night Lights in Blue Ridge GA

It is Friday night in Blue Ridge and there is a home high school football game. The town is a buzz and the students are energized. Soon, the sun will be hanging low in the sky and hundreds of cars with thousands of spectators will head to Fannin County High School to watch the Rebels play. As with so many things here in the North Georgia Mountains, the home football games are reminiscent of days gone by. The administration has high expectations for the students so the event is full of fun and fanfare with little to no “big city” […]

Blue Ridge GA Blues and BBQ Festival

One of the most fun nights of my life happened in September a year or so ago. Actually the whole weekend was fun with lots of Blues and BBQ. This year, the Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ will start with the Blues Crawl on Friday, September 16th with eight local downtown restaurants featuring live music, followed by the wildly popular Blue Ridge Blues and BBQ on Saturday, September 17th starting at noon. My festivities began with the Rotary Blues Train ride with awesome music, fun friends, good food and wine on the Friday night of the Blues Crawl. The skies […]

Road-Tripping Out of Blue Ridge GA

I really enjoy road trips.  Most of the time I have a general plan but nothing set in stone.  That way if I run into a parade, craft fair, or irresistible road side store I can stop off and investigate.  Road trips can be several days and encompass different cities or they can be a quick one day affair.  One of my favorite day trips from Blue Ridge is the Mennonite Farm in Delano, Tennessee followed by Benton’s Smoky Mountain Country Hams in Madisonville, Tennessee. To begin the trip, you drive along the Ocoee River which is breathtaking.  That portion […]

Polar Ice Frozen Yogurt: Blue Ridge’s Newest Special Treat Store

There is something new and yummy in Downtown Blue Ridge on Main Street. Polar Ice serves frozen yogurt, gelato, sorbet, and Italian ice. If you find the need to add something delicious to your sweet treat, they have over 40 toppings including sprinkles, fruit, and candies. My favorite topping is the Bobas, a little pearl bursting with juice. It may sound unusual but just trust me and try them. They also have soft serve blueberry and coconut which are all natural and favorites of the local Crossfitter crowd after a tough workout. Once you find your favorite, go often and […]
